A specialized United Nations agency, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is a global financial institution whose mission is to end hunger and poverty in rural areas. It invests in rural residents to achieve this. In addition to providing funding for initiatives that boost rural incomes and agricultural output, IFAD promotes policies that support rural transformation on a local, national, and global scale.

The Operational Policy and Results Division (OPR) and the five (5) regional divisions make up the Programme Management Department (PMD), which is led by an Associate Vice-President and is in charge of the Fund’s overall loan and grant program. East and Southern Africa (ESA) Near East, where this post is located, is one of the five regional divisions, along with Asia and the Pacific (APR), West and Central Africa (WCA), North Africa and Europe (NEN), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and East and Southern Africa (ESA).
When managing the designated portfolio, the Country Director is responsible for upholding the IFAD basic values of equity, transparency, and honesty. Advocating for and strengthening national government programs that increase impoverished rural people’s access to markets, financial services, agricultural technologies, natural resources, employment possibilities, and enterprise growth are additional accountability/key outcome areas.
Within the designated portfolio, the Country Director creates and oversees new national projects and programs. Their significant contributions, which go beyond accepted practices or models, showcase fresh ideas that significantly broaden the scope of services or initiatives offered at the national level. Activities related to the creation and development of programs demonstrate authoritative technical capability in carrying out the Head of Country Program job.
