The Aga Khan Foundation Tanzania (AKFT) Head of Programs oversees and offers strategic direction for the nation’s program portfolio, making sure that it is in line with regional, national, and international priorities. Major Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Strategic Visioning
- Create and put into action a program framework tailored to Tanzania.
- To guarantee that outputs and outcomes are delivered on schedule, oversee the design, implementation, and assessment of the program.
- Encourage creativity and make sure that programs are in line with AKFT’s long-term objectives while addressing new issues.
Stakeholder Engagement & External Representation
- Work together with international teams, funders, governmental organizations, and civil society to create and implement successful projects.
- Represent AKFT at forums both domestically and internationally while cultivating connections with important stakeholders.
Business Development & Partnership Management
- Collaborate with the Partnerships Manager to secure new funding opportunities.
- Establish and manage partnerships with multilateral, bilateral, and private sector entities.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Support recruitment, retention, and development of program staff.
- Mentor program coordinators and foster a culture of professional growth and learning.
Financial Oversight & Risk Management
- Work with the finance team to ensure sound financial management and risk mitigation for programs.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Sustainability
- In order to guarantee evidence-based instruction and program sustainability, supervise the monitoring and assessment function.
- Make sure that donor guidelines and company rules are followed.
- Interdepartmental Cooperation
- Work together with divisions like finance, communications, and human resources to guarantee well-organized program support.

Qualifications and Experience:
- A master’s degree in business administration, education, environmental studies, agriculture, social sciences, or international development, or a similar discipline, is required. It is preferred to have a master’s degree in these or other related fields.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in program management, with at least three of those years spent in senior leadership roles, and a proven track record of managing and completing challenging development projects.
- An advantage is demonstrated experience in fields including community-driven development, education, climate resilience, and gender equality.
- Demonstrated aptitude for interacting with important stakeholders, including civil society organizations and government agencies.
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial management, including risk management, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Good leadership qualities and the capacity to motivate, coach, and build groups in a multicultural setting.
